LIANE CARROLL CDs RE-RELEASED

To celebrate the launch of Liane's new CD later this month we have reissued Liane's previously unavailble albums - Billy No Mates, Standard Issue and Slow Down - and re-designed them into new eco-packaging. You can buy your copies HERE.

Our two new releases have both received fantastic reviews...

"Jazz relies heavily on independent recording companies to promote music and one most active at present is Splash Point who gave us the Sue Richardson CD I reviewed last month and now excel themselves with a first rate album from Britain’s top male jazz singer Ian Shaw... I feel that Shaw and Splash Point have on their hands a CD which will eventually be voted one of the best jazz releases of 2011" Mick Day (click here to read full review).

"Splash Point Records have lived up to their name and certainly produced a bracing and refreshing CD featuring the astonishingly multi-talented Sue Richardson." Intune International (click here to read full review).

11th March 2011 - Ian Shaw's The Abbey Road Sessions is launched.

Playing to a packed house with as many stars in the audience as on stage, Ian played 2 sell out gigs at Pizza Express Jazz Club to launch the album. Jazzwise gave the concert a five star review: "Shaw was positively fizzing with excitement. It must have also been the launch of his lushly arranged latest album The Abbey Road Sessions... he’s in danger of becoming a national treasure" Mike Flynn. The album is released on 14th March.

PRAISE FOR THE ABBEY ROAD SESSIONS

"It was a joy to watch them dismantle and re-build well-known tunes, making them afresh, and to witness how seven highly individual musicians can meld into a single tight unit." Robert Ryan

“Shaw is at the peak of his powers, especially here alongside Brit-jazz royalty Peter Ind”
Time Out

"his voice has never sounded better . . . Shaw's take-no-prisoners approach carried the day". Jazzwise

“a singer in confident form at the top of his game.” Sandy Brown Jazz

“a revolutionary who breaks down all musical barriers, and just happens to make the most wonderful noise I've ever heard” Liane Carroll

In the summer of 2010, Ian Shaw played four shows at Ronnie Scott's with a stunning collection of new arrangements, from a darkly powerful take on Cole Porter's "GET OUT OF TOWN", through Dori Kaymmi's "OBSESSION", to a shimmering new reharmonization of the Michael Jackson classic, "HUMAN NATURE". Two days later, Ian and his regular collaborator, guitarist DAVID PRESTON went into the famous ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS with a cross generational sextet, that includes bass legend, PETER IND (Chet Baker, Lennie Tristano, Mal Waldron), the US drummer, GENE CALDERAZZO and the fiery young Russian altoist, ZHENYA STRIGALEV and laid down 13 tracks. The novelist Robert Ryan was present. He said: “I was fortunate enough to be there for part of that day at Abbey Road, so I find it hard to dissociate listening to this album from the electricity and excitement that sparked in both the studio and the booth, as Ian and the band parsed the whole jazz-song lexicon in just 13 tracks and seven highly individual musicians melded into a single tight unit.”

Praise for Fanfare, Sue Richardon's new album

The Times gig review – “At the end of her opening set she even set sail into the audience, firing off a tattoo of notes on the irresistible, hand-clapping calypso beat of Out for a Duck, one of the tunes from her newly released album Fanfare” (Monday's launch gig at Pizza Express Jazz Club)
The Observer CD review – Trumpet-playing singer-songwriter Sue Richardson is anything but a gimmick, says Dave Gelly
JazzUK CD review – “The whole package just oozes panache and undoubtedly makes for a memorable live set, with Richardson on excellent form both vocally and instrumentally”
Jazzwise CD review - She has the kind of bright, well-grounded sound and technique that most trumpeters would envy and develops her improvisations confidently”
London JazzBlog Royal Albert Hall gig review last week - Sue has natural warmth; it was no surprise when she mentioned that she started off in nursing, being with her would make you feel better”

Splash Point Records is a 3 times BBC Jazz and Ronnie-Scott's Award-winning British jazz record label. Just a few years on and the label has a string of successful albums, tours, BBC Jazz Awards, plaudits, and a great reputation for quality recordings. It has recently decided to embrace greener technology and the latest products are now as eco-friendly as possible, using greener inks, recycled cardboard packaging and a minimal amount of plastic.  Also, unlike major labels, a much higher percentage of the profits are given to the artists recorded.
